This past week our order held their 95th Biennial AOH National Convention in Cincinnati with a turnout of over 800 delegates. We reelected four very fine men to lead us over the next two years; Seamus Boyle - President, Brendan Moore - Vice President. Judge Jim McKay - Treasurer and, Tom McNabb - Secretary. Congratulation’s also goes out the six National Directors that were elected; Keith Carney (DC), Chris Norris (PA), Bob Mott (SC), John O’Connor (MT), Dan O’Connell (OH) and our New Jersey State President Jere Cole. I wish them the best of luck.
On July 23rd there will be a benefit for the Vol. Patrick Torphy Pipe and Drums at our hall at 7pm with music by our own Sean Hennessy and Amadan to include a special piper gathering. For a $20 advance ticket purchase price you can enjoy great music, support our up and coming pipe band while enjoying beer, wine, soda, burgers, dogs, salad and dessert. As you know our next big project is the Wounded Warrior Tank Pull to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. The mission of the Wounded Warrior Project is to honor and empower wounded warriors. The purpose is to raise awareness and enlist the public’s aid for the needs of severely injured service men and women; to help severely injured service members aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of severely injured service members (www.woundedwarrior.org). We are rewarded for our fund raising efforts with the knowledge that we have assisted those that wear our country’s military uniforms and fight for our freedom and also, to allow us to have the honor of participating in the Wounded Warrior Tank Pull (more information below).
On August 6th we will be having a fundraiser to kick off our fundraising efforts for this worthy cause. The night will begin at our hall at 7pm with music by our own Kevin Guerin and The Round the House Band with tickets modestly prices at $10. Please feel free to bring appetizers, snacks, etc. since no food will be served at this event. Domestic beer is free. Also, a Chinese Auction with some really great gifts will be taking place. On August 27th we will be having a fundraiser to benefit the Howard Family at our hall from 7-12pm with music, dinner, beer, wine and soda - $30 per ticket. Please come and show your support.
September 12th - Wounded Warrior Tank Pull – teams from all over the state will compete to pull a Sherman Tank with 20 Tank Crew Members per tea. Anyone interested in participating please sign up at the meeting. We will have a bus to take us to the event in Clifton. The bus will leave our Hall at 8:00 AM for Clifton and will return by 5:00pm. The cost is $10 for the bus, food and beer. We need 20 people to pull the Tank and the remaining seats are for supporters. Come on and give a hand literally!!! Our 12th Annual Irish Festival at the Jersey Shore is Sept.18th 2010 at the Sea Girt National Guard Base. This year’s festival will be our largest to date. We have an exciting music line up and our festival Chieftain will be State Sen. Richard Codey (D-Essex). Festival meetings will be a one hour before division meetings.

On Saturday, May 8th our Brothers in Freehold will be hosting there 9th Annual Evening with the Irish honoring Father James McDevitt - Hibernian of the Year and James Palser - Irishman of the Year. Entertainment will be provided by the Willie Lynch Band & the Warnock-Seery School of Irish Dance. Location for the event is St Thomas More - Petri Hall, 186 Gordon’s Corner Road in Manalapan, NJ 07726. Tickets are $20 and this is a BYOB event Info John Keane at 732-740-6821.
On Friday, May 14, 2010, we will be hosting our 2nd annual fundraiser for Ocean's Harbor House. Ocean's Harbor House is a safe haven for youth, ages 10-21 that have run away, homeless or have been abused, neglected or abandoned. This organization is committed to providing quality services that respond to the growing and changing needs of youth and families in the Jersey Shore region. They are joined in their commitment by a variety of partners and friends who provide financial support through grants and donations, those who volunteer their services and skills, and those who help fill their Wish Lists by donating food, clothing, furnishings, and office supplies. This collaboration throughout the years has enabled Ocean's Harbor House to become a strong voice for the needs of troubled youth and families. This also allows them to provide all services free of charge and confidential. Friday, May 14, 2010, AOH/K of C Hall, Hwy 36, Middletown, NJ from 7-12pm. Beer, wine, soda, hot dogs and burgers are included with the $25 donation per person. Kevin Gibson will have tickets at the 4/21/10 meeting.
Our fourth Annual Stickball Tournament will be on June 12th at Mater Dei High School. Tournament is to benefit Catholic Schools. Brackets for participation are 1st to 4th Grades, 5th to 8th Grades, High School, Friendly Adults and Competitive. For more info see the event website at http://aohstickball.blogspot.com.
The City of Cincinnati has the honor of hosting the 95th Biennial National Convention for the AOH/LAOH in 2010. Convention dates are July 7 to July 11, 2010. We have four delegate and county delegates. Anyone interest attending the National Convention please see me 4/21/10 meeting
