Our second annual Polar Bear Plunge was an incredible success. Our Division, working with the local parishes and Catholic Schools, was able to double the size of this event since our inaugural Plunge last year. This year's crowd, estimated at nearly 1,000 people, turned out to see over 225 brave souls take the plunge for this important charity.
We must thank Ichabod's Bar & Grill along with the Sea Bright Fire Company, Sea Bright First Aid, and Town of Sea Bright for being wonderful hosts to this event. Their hospitality allowed us to offer a more family oriented experience to the plungers & supporters. The Fire House was setup with a video jukebox, food, hot chocolate, and activities for the kids. Our division's own Kevin Guerin and the Round The House Band provided Irish Music and entertainment in the bar for all of the adults.
We also must thank the support from our brother Hibernians. Division 32 from Bergen County send down an entire crew of plungers, Middlesex 1 in South Amboy sent their pipe band, and members from Division 16 in Freehold came out to support our Division's Event.
The event generated over $32,000. Monies that were pledged towards a particular school will go back to that school and remaining funds will be divided equally among the schools. These funds are designated to be used for scholarships to help families with the cost of a Catholic School education.
Also on the pledge list was our division's Stained Glass Window fund to put a St. Patrick AOH window in the new St. Mary's church that is currently under construction. This fund received over $3,000 from the Plunge. This money will go a long way towards reaching our $15,000 goal that will be needed to purchase the window.
