Background
The Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) is an Irish Catholic men’s organization that follows the motto Friendship, Unity, and Christian Chartiy. The order is the oldest Irish Catholic organization in the US. It was founded in this country in 1836 at St. James Church in New York City. Its roots, however, are found in Ireland dating back 300 years. Since then it has continued to grow and prosper until it has become the largest and most influential body of men, both young and old, of Irish lineage in the world. Our Division was formed in 1990 by several dedicated Hibernian brothers. The division takes its name from Patrick Torphy, a deceased brother who’s life was an inspiration to many.
Accomplishments
The division is very active in the pursuit of unity and Christian Charity and Irish Culture. We run an Annual Polar Plunge that has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Catholic Schools, support Wounded Warrior causes, and many other smaller scale charity based activities. Our efforts have won us the AOH national charity awards on many occasions.
Meetings
Our division meets on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 8PM at the Bayshore Catholic Center (aka Kinights of Columbus hall) located on Hwy 36 just east of Palmer Ave in Middletown, NJ
